This is an original Northern Athabascan Fire Bag on Indian hide and trade clothe with beadwork and dentalium shells. The fire bag or firebag is referred to as a K’enq’ena viqizdluyi in Dena’ina Athabascan (as noted by Helen Dick and Michelle Ravenmoon). This bag shows an Indian tanned hide base with covering in red stroud trade wool and exquisite glass trade seed beadwork in classic geometric Athabascan patterns with large dentalium shells. The bag is thread sewn and is backed on the collar in calico trade clothe. The beadwork shows red white heart, greasy white, cobalt and chalk white pony beads. The bag is well kept in near pristine condition. Collected from the Northwest Coast in 1985, exact age unknown. Truly a unique piece. Measures overall 30”L by 7.5“W.
