This stunning painting features a massive, solitary grizzly bear in a forest, its gaze seemingly fixed on the viewer. The grizzly's back is washed in muted sunshine filtering through the forest canopy. The grizzly's noted prominent hump is easily recognizable and differentiates it from much smaller black bears species. The reverse canvas border is titled, "Red Rock Canyon '05". Garre Fine Art was a prominent gallery in downtown Livingston, Montana, operated by lifelong artists John and Karen Garre. Known for their impressionistic, palette-knife interpretations of the American West and Yellowstone National Park, known for being home to approximately 1,000 grizzly bears. Montana is home to an estimated 1,800 to 2,000 grizzly bears, which accounts for roughly two-thirds of the contiguous U.S. population. The Red Rocks National Wildlife Refuge in Southwest Montana is active grizzly habitat.
