The Bird Cage Theatre in Tombstone, Arizona Territory, opened in 1881 and quickly became one of the town’s most infamous landmarks. Advertised as a combination saloon, gambling parlor, and bawdy house, it operated 24 hours a day and earned a reputation for rowdy entertainment and violence. The theatre hosted performances ranging from vaudeville to opera, while its basement offered private "cribs" for prostitution. Bullet holes in the walls, more than 120 remain, testify to its wild history. During Tombstone’s boom years, the Bird Cage was a favorite haunt of miners, cowboys, and outlaws, and it remains a vivid reminder of the rough-and-tumble days of the Old West. The condition of this of this Birdcage Theater trunk is preserved with some serious patina adorning the iron mounting with reinforced nature of this trunk and shows the key missing from the trunk. The measurements of this trunk is 19" x 27" x 16". The collective weight of this trunk is 25lb 8oz.
