This is a scarce set of miniature or infant beaded and polychrome painted hide medium height moccasins from the Apache Native American Indians dating to circa 1870-1880. The set shows Indian tanned hide with traditional beadwork and painted with mineral pigment red ocher along the top, sides, back and bottom of the moccasins. The beadwork is in colors of black, chalk white, cobalt, semi-transparent dark green, semi-transparent rose. The set has a medium height wrapped ankle with fringed tongue and original tie straps all in Indian tanned hide. The set shows little bead loss and a nice supple hide for its early age. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce was also the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery, this piece is directly from the collection.
