Featured in this lot is this Gros Ventre beaded medicine bag circa 1870 to 1880's. The medicine bag features a wonderfully and professionally crafted Indian tanned hide and trade seed bead construction that shows trade thread and sinew thread the beads are strung on. The bag features a Indian tanned hide frame that shows a flap at the top and shows a geometric pattern to the beadwork in the front and the back shows a geometric pattern strung to the back of the medicine bag. The trade seed bead coloration includes: chalk white, medium blue, medium green, and medium red coloration. Gros Ventre People are also known as People of the Waterfalls or Waterfalls People. They are the Saulteaux of Montana. They originally lived along the Great Falls of the Missouri River. They are also known as White Clay People or White Earth People. The condition of this medicine bag is shows some slight wear and damage to the Indian tanned hide and to the trade string the beads are strung on and some wear to the coloration of the beads.
