Featured in this lot is this cameo carved shell red branch coral pin circa 1890. The cameo pin is wonderfully and professionally crafted brass, shell, and red branch coral construction that shows a carved woman's portrait with leaves of brass securing it and bordered by red branch coral beads in semi discoidal form and shows a pin on the rear of the cameo. Cameo's are beautiful and highly collectible pieces of jewelry that often reflect the styles and craftsmanship of the Victorian era. These pins, also known as brooches, typically featured detailed carvings of profiles or scenes, often set in materials like shell, coral, onyx, or agate, and framed in precious metals like gold or silver. The 1890s saw a continuation of cameo artistry, with some unique characteristics of the time. The condition of this shell cameo is well preserved with some discoloration to the cameo and patina to the frame but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this cameo pin is 2 1/8" x 1 5/8" x 1/2". The collective weight of this cameo pin is 19.3g.
