Featured in this lot is this limited edition, two volume set of "Les Amours de Psyché et de Cupidon", authored by Jean de La Fontaine and published in Paris by Librairie Théophile Belin in 1899. This is a limited edition set of only 200 copies with this being number 31. This edition is renowned for its 26 color plates by artist A. Borel, with engravings rendered in three states by Vigna-Vigneron after Borel’s original works. "Les Amours de Psyché et de Cupidon" originally written in 1669, is La Fontaine's only prose work that combines mythology, philosophy, and literary grace. It depicts the mythical story of Psyche, a mortal princess, and her romantic relationship with Cupid, the god of desire. They are bound in red calf leather and feature intricate gold gilt designs on the front, back and spine. The spine shows raised bands and the respective volume numbers in gold gilt lettering. This limited edition shows good condition overall with wear consistent with its age and use over the years, such as minor scuffing and wear to the edges, but no major signs of damage noted. They measure 12 " L x 8 7/8" W x 1 5/8" D and have a collective weight of 9 pounds and 4 ounces.
