Featured in this lot is this oil on canvas painting called "Circle of Fire" circa 1995 by American artist Richard Headley born in 1927 and died in 2008. The artwork features a wonderfully and professionally crafted oil on canvas construction that shows a frontiersman in a buckskin blouse with a revolver hiding behind a dead buffalo with his dead horse fending himself from a Indian attack. The artist signature can be seen in the bottom left hand corner. The artwork is marked on the back as follows: Richard S Headley - Sept 7, 1995 - "Circle of Fire." Richard Headley (1927-2008), was a sea captain and the last Santa Barbara (CA) sealer before the passage of the Marine Mammal Act in 1972. Prior to capturing and selling seals to zoos, Headley served in the merchant marines during WWII and in the army during the Korean War. He later became an accomplished portrait artist. The condition of this of this oil on canvas painting is good with no obvious signs of damage to the artwork and the frame shows minimal wear to the wood but otherwise shows a good overall condition. The measurements of this oil painting is 38 1/2" x 44 3/4" and the visible artwork measures 29 1/2" x 35 1/2". The collective weight of this oil painting is 18lb 4oz.
