Featured in this lot is this is an original watercolor painting “Uncle Buffalo” by Crow Native American Indian artist Leland Stewart. Leland Stewart, a Montana native, is a member of the Crow Nation, Whistling Water Clan and the High Hawk Society. He graduated from the Institute of the American Indian Arts in 1975. Stewart's artwork is featured in in Montana fine art galleries and beyond. This painting shows half of the head of a Great American Bison Buffalo with the horn having a three stripe design and at the background a sunlight abstract pattern. The painting also shows three geometric “blanket strip” like designs with three Crow polychrome parfleche war shields shown. The piece exhibits Stewart’s unique style of bright, vivid colors and personal interpretation of his Native American Indian heritage. Leland Stewart’s work has been in high demand since his work has been on permanent display at the Yellowstone Art Museum in Billings, Montana. The condition of this watercolor is good with no obvious signs of damage to the art and the frame only shows minor wear to the wood but otherwise shows a good overall condition.
