For your consideration is the First Edition Charles M. Russell book, "Rawhide Rawlins Stories", 1921, fourth printing by the Montana Newspaper Association in Great Falls, MT. This book was in the Montana Historical Society library in Helena, Montana, society embossed seal noted on title page, society name plate attached to inside front cover. Written and is illustrated by Charley Russell, this collection of stories stems from a simpler time when men would tell their own or others adventures at ranches or stage stations. Charles Marion Russell, also known as C. M. Russell, Charlie Russell, and "Kid" Russell, was an American artist of the American Old West, known as "the cowboy artist", a prolific artist who created more than 2,000 paintings of cowboys, Native Americans, and landscapes set in the western United States and in Alberta, Canada, in addition to bronze sculptures. He became an advocate for Native Americans in the west, supporting the bid by landless Chippewa to have a reservation established for them in Montana. In 1916, Congress passed legislation to create the Rocky Boy Reservation. The C. M. Russell Museum Complex in Great Falls, Montana houses more than 2,000 Russell artworks, personal objects, and artifacts. Other major collections are held at the Montana Historical Society in Helena, Montana, the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming, the Sid Richardson Museum in Fort Worth, Texas as well as the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art (now the Amon G. Carter Museum of American Art). In 1955, Russell was inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. This rare book is a must have for Charlie Russell and Western art fans. The maroon cloth bound gold gilt titled hardcover is in very nice condition. Intact pages exhibit slight age tanning. Measures 7.25"W x 10.5"L x .5"D.
