Featured in this lot is a circa early 1900's corn husk doll and papoose with beadwork from the Cherokee Native American Indians. The piece is completely constructed of stripped corn husk, which have a natural pigment dyed finish of red and purple with painted features along the mother and child's faces. The woman has black braided corn husk hair and is wearing a necklace comprised of early glass trade seed beads, an early spiral wound glass purple trade bead, and two chevron trade beads. The necklace has greasy yellow and semi-transparent red colors. The papoose has contemporary added glass trade beads of white and dark and light blue. For similar corn husk examples from an Eastern Native American tribe, see the examples sold by Cowan's Auction in 2014, attributed to the Iroquois, which sold for $1,300. Provenance: From a private museum collection in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region of France. Measures overall 9.5" H by 5.5" W.
