Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with 4” octagon barrel, serial number 260442 indicating a Civil War manufacture date of 1864. A fine original example .31 caliber, five-shot revolver that found favor with Civil War officers and enlisted men as personal weapons. Many of these also saw service in the gold fields of California. One of Colt’s most popular designs that was large enough for aimed fire, but small enough to conceal in a waste band or unobtrusive holster. They also found favor with gamblers and “ladies of the evening.” Barrel correctly marked “ADDRESS SAM’L COLT NEW-YORK U.S. America”. Nice overall aged patina with a worn roll engraved cylinder scene depicting a stage coach holdup. Excellent walnut grips are without chips or cracks, fit beautifully, and still retain fine original varnish finish. This example also shows a mellow, uncleaned brass back strap and trigger guard. This revolver with very attractive overall appearance has all sharp marking and is fully functional with fine screws and original loading lever. One of the most popular and successful of the Colt percussion revolvers and a key model for any Colt, Civil War or Old West collection. Matching Serial Numbers: 260442. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
