The lot features an early 1900’s imitation Grizzly Bear claw necklace with otter fur porcupine quilled and beaded sash. The piece is in the pattern of bear claw necklaces with sashes that were known to be worn by the Osage, Otoe, and Sauk & Fox tribes. Truly an incredible display piece. The piece exhibits an Otter fur on hide necklace strung with twenty carved imitation claws in the shape of long Grizzly Bear claws. The necklace is otter fur hide with shell gorgets on the inside and trade beads strung in between each claw. The back of the necklace has a drop sash that would have hung down the wearers back of old trade clothe with Otter fur hide down the center adorned with three round medallions of porcupine quill quillwork on thick Indian tanned hide with colors of natural white cream/ brown and orange with quilled Indian hide fringes at the center with rolled tin jingle cones. The sash is fancy beaded at the outside with old glass trade seed beads in greasy yellow and semi-transparent red. An amazing well kept piece. The faux claws measure about 4-inches in length each and the sash overall measures 37 ½ inches in length. Provenance: From the Tom Hardy Indianapolis Collection.
