Featured in this lot we have a English mahogany traveling desk originating from the early to mid 19th century. The desk is made of rich mahogany wood with brass handles and fixtures. These desk where used to provide a good writing work space while on long travels such as traveling by boat or train where desks where not always available. The piece shows two velvet covered panels and a total of four storage compartments. The storage spaces consist of two large sections under the velvet panels with a compartment on the top to hold writing instruments with a smaller compartment next to it to hold an ink well of other small items. The desk is marked on the underside of the lower panel reading "A. Banks 59 Rulfou Rd - South Horsly London" scrawled in pencil. The piece is in fair condition overall with dents and scuffs on the exterior and some damage and wear on the interior due to age and use. The desk measures 20 " long overall with it measuring 9 3/4" long by 11 1/2" wide when folded up.
