The lot features an Early Gunstock Spontoon War Club attributed to the Chippewa in Northern Wisconsin of the 19th Century. The piece exhibits a classic typical Great Lakes region pattern of Gunstock War Club and has a deep chocolate patina from honest use and age. The club has a hand-forged iron notch cut trade spontoon blade with median ridge running down the center. The handle haft is adorned with chip carving, incised etched designs of animal figures, floral figures and has elaborate brass trade tack decorations on both sides. There is minor wear to the piece but overall the club displays very well. Provenance: From the ex-Ted Levy collection of Santa Rosa, California. The club measures 24 ½ inches in length with a spontoon blade that protrudes 6 inches.
