Featured in this lot we have a Egyptian celluloid scarab beetle beaded purse originating from the 1930's. In 1922 British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered of King Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. The wealth, beauty and artistry he uncovered astounded the world. Everything from fashion to architecture embraced this new and wonderful 3000 year old imagery. This wonderful purse displays a black celluloid clasp with a painted carved image of a scarab beetle in flight across the front with floral patterns on each side of the beetle. The purse features geometric wing like patterns with tassels across the bottom. The purse is constructed out of a variety of colored beads including green, dark brown, yellow, black, brown, and a tarnished metallic silver color, along with pink on the tassels. The interior of the purse displays cream colored cloth lining with a burn orange trim and a fade manufacturers mark. The piece shows good condition overall with some light wear due to age. The piece measures 8 1/2" tall including the tassels by 6 1/2" wide.
