Featured in this lot is this excavated Civil War era bone and ebony dominoes circa 1860's and is displayed in the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. There are a total of six dominoes in this collection showing bone and ebony construction. Bone and ebony dominoes from the 1860s were popular gaming pieces often crafted with precision using animal bone for the white halves and dark hardwood for contrast. These handmade sets were durable and compact, making them ideal for travel. During the Civil War, soldiers on both sides carried dominoes as a form of recreation during long marches or idle encampments. Games like dominoes offered a welcome distraction from the hardships of war, helping to pass time, lift spirits, and foster camaraderie among troops. Today, these sets are valued as both historical artifacts and examples of 19th-century craftsmanship. The dominoes come complete with an original museum tag that reads as follows: Bone & Ebony Dominoes ca.1860's. The condition of this collection of dominoes is preserved with some natural wear considering they were excavated with some discoloration due to age and exposure but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this collection is 5/8" x 1 5/8" for each domino. The collective weight of this collection is 46.7g. MS43
