Featured in this lot is this First Year Issue Montana Prison-made License Plate, circa 1928, as well as two (2) original Montana License plates issued 1921 & 1923. The first prison-made plates were issued in 1928, and “MONTANA” was spelled out; plates prior to 1928 were manufactured out of state. This Prison-made plate number is 98-319 in yellow letters. Approximately 127,215 plates were manufactured in 1928. The whole plate was originally painted yellow with black lettering. The 1921 license plate number is 37988, original face colour was yellow and reverse red; the 1923 plate number is 39295. Due to oxidation unable to determine original paint colour. The condition of this this pair of Montana license plates shows some oxidation to the license plates and some wear to the plate with bending and dents due to age and use but otherwise shows no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of these plates are: Prison plate is 5 5/8"W x 3.5"L, 1921 plate 5.5"W x 15"L, 1923 plate 4.5"W x 13"L. The collective weight of these plates is 1lb.
