This is an original Flathead Native American Indian parfleche polychrome painted flat bag with impressive fringe. The piece is from the Flathead Indians of Northwestern Montana. The piece shows a parfleche rawhide construction with traditional geometric polychrome mineral painted design in ocher colors of red, blue, yellow and green. The top of the bag shows a red and blue trade clothe early stroud border which is accented by short wide Indian tanned hide fringe. The outside edges of the bag shows an Indian tanned hide sewn red stroud trade clothe lined edge which shows a border of wide hand cut Indian tanned hide wonderfully long fringe. The bag is truly a wonderful 20th Century example in fine original condition. Measures overall 40 inches long with the bag being 13”x10”.
