The lot features a wonderful set of Hudson Bay Red Green Heart “Cornaline d'Aleppo” exotic trade beads dating to the 17th-19th Century. These 1600-1800’s beads are regularly referred to as “green hearts” due to the semi-translucent green core at the “heart” or center of each bead that is finished with a red opaque outer shell. This exceptional strand shows a fine “graduated” design, showing larger approximately ½” by 3/8” beads at the base that slowly or gradually become smaller up the strand. The strand consists of wound cotton, a modern 20th Century addition. These authentic early trade beads display very well and have been appraised at a value of over $900. Provenance: From the collection of Dr. David and Marsha Bowerly of Oregon. The piece comes with an original museum collection tag stating, “5198 / Green Heart” and “JIM #61”. The strand measures 40”L of circumference.
