Offered for sale is this very rare and fine set of large Hudson Bay White Heart “Cornaline d'Aleppo” exotic trade beads dating to the 16th-17th Century. These 1600-1800’s beads are regularly referred to as “white hearts” due to the opaque white core at the “heart” or center of each bead that is finished with a red semi-translucent outer shell (showing the white partially through). This outstanding strand shows a unusually large size with very rare shiny semi-transparent outer shell. The strand consists of tightly braided waxed leather, a later addition. These authentic early trade beads display very well and have been appraised at a value of over $1,200. Provenance: From the collection of Dr. David and Marsha Bowerly of Oregon. The piece comes with an original museum collection tag stating, “8198 / Lg White Hearts $700.00” and “Heycamp 46”. The strand measures 30”L of circumference and each bead is approximately ¾” in diameter to ½” long.
