Featured in this lot are two framed J. J. Audubon colored lithographs titled, "Florida Jay" and "Summer Red Bird" circa mid to late 1900s. Audubon is renowned for his extraordinary undertaking to visually record the birds and mammals of North America. His publications "The Birds of America" & "The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America" are icons of 19th-century art and capture the nascent stages of American natural history. The first colored lithograph, "Florida Jay" shows a male and female Florida Jay sitting on a branch watching their surroundings. The male sits lower on the branch while the female sits above him. Larger fruits or berries hang off the branches, surrounding the Florida Jays. The jays show colors of blue, grey, white and black. The lithograph reads, "No. 47 Pl. 233 / R.J. / Florida Jay 1. Male 2. Female Persimontree Diospyros Virginiana / Drawn from nature by J. J. Audubon". It is set in a gold colored frame and matted once with light blue matting paper. The second print, "Summer Red Bird" shows three Summer Red birds sitting in some branches surrounded by berries hanging off the branches. The male is perched at the top and appears to be eating a small bug or berry while the young male and female sit below him. The male and young male show colors of red, green and black, while the female shows colors of light brown and black. The lithograph reads, "No. 42 Pl. 208 / Summer Red Bird 1. Male 2. Female 3. Young Male / Wild Muscadine / Drawn from nature by J. J. Audubon". The artwork is set in a gold colored frame and is matted once with light blue matting paper. The protective glass is missing from the frame, leaving the lithograph and matting paper exposed. The visible art of these lithographs measure 15 3/8" L x 12" W, while the entire piece measures 21 3/16" L x 17 1/8" W x 3/4" D. The two pieces have a collective weight of 4 pounds and 4 ounces.
