"Keep Him Free" was one of many posters distributed by the United States government during World War I to encourage citizens to purchase War Savings Stamps. W.S.S. could be acquired for 25 cents and, once amassed, traded for war bonds. The United States Treasury Department printed this poster in 1917. Charles Livingston Bull, an artist who studied taxidermy, was most renowned for his stunning, lifelike paintings of wildlife. The eagle on this billboard, standing above enemy plans, attempts to provoke patriotism and American superiority. The poster shows good condition overall with tape present on tears that have happened over the years. No major signs of damage are noted. The poster measures 29 7/8" L x 20" W.
