Featured in this lot is an Original WWI Victory Liberty Loan War Bond Poster, circa 1919. World War 1 Victory Liberty Loan war bond posters were released in 1919, specifically after the war ended, as part of the "Victory Liberty Loan" campaign which was the fifth and final Liberty Bond issue. A liberty bond or liberty loan was a war bond that was sold in the United States to support the Allied cause in World War I. Subscribing to the bonds became a symbol of patriotic duty in the United States and introduced the idea of financial securities to many citizens for the first time. This colour war bond poster features a bandaged US Army "doughboy", standing on a battlefield, 1903 30/06 Springfield rifle over his right shoulder while carrying three German helmets. The slogan, "And They Thought We Couldn't FIGHT" at the top right, "VICTORY LIBERTY LOAN" across the bottom, Ketterlinus, PHILA. printed on the bottom right corner. Printed by Ketterlinus Printing House of Philadelphia, later Ketterlinus Llithographic Manufacturing Company, a lithographic and letter press printing house by John Louis Ketterlinus. This war bond poster is in very nice condition, slight creases and tears observed. Measures 20"W x 30"L.
