Featured in this lot is this framed collotype called "Trail Herd at Powder River" originally taken in 1886 by American photographer Laton Alton Huffman born in 1854 and died in 1931 from the ex-collection of the C.M. Russell Museum and John Kleinschmidt. The collotype features a scene of a large herd of cattle congregated in the field near the Powder River with a hillside in the background and trees surrounding where the river comes through. The collotype is marked at the bottom as follows: 226 - A Trail Herd, Powder River, negative, Print and copyrighted by L.A. Huffman - Milestown, Montana 1886. The piece is tagged with a museum or collectors tag that reads as follows: 396-87 - O'dell. The condition of this L.A. Huffman collotype is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage to the collotype and the frame shows minimal wear to it. The measurements of this framed collotype is 10 5/8" x 16 1/8" and the visible collotype measures 9 5/8" x 15 1/8". The collective weight of this collotype is 1lb 8oz. Provenance: From the John Kleinschmidt collection which was on loan to the C.M. Russell Museum from 1987 to 1993 and included in the "The Cowboy West: 100 Years of Photography 1992-1993 exhibit.
