This is a fine late 19th Century fully beaded Northern Plains Lakota Sioux Native American Indian sheath and trade knife. The sheath shows a thick Great American Bison Buffalo Indian tanned hide and is fully beaded in a beautiful and colorful typical symmetrical geometric Northern plains designs, having a chalk white background with patterns in greasy yellow, semi-transparent red, light blue, cobalt blue and a fancy top edge of Cheyenne pink. The end of the sheath shows long hand cut frilly Indian tanned hide fringe along with the original tie straps along the top still being intact, a wonderful addition. The trade knife, which is a nicely paired 19th Century piece, shows a long blade with metal bolster finger holds and a dark most likely walnut grip being secured with copper rivets. The knife shows an original hallmark which can be seen in the pictures and some brass trade tacks. Great example of an Indian Wars early Reservation era trade knife. The sheath measures overall 17 inches in length by 3 inches wide. The trade knife is 11 ½ inches in length.
