The lot features an EXCELLENT Lakota Sioux Native American Indian fully beaded rifle scabbard. The scabbard fits a Winchester Model 1873, Model 1892 and Model 1894. The piece shows an Indian tanned Great Americaxn Bison Buffalo hide construction with long thin hand cut fringe and exceptional beadwork showing a traditional geometric pattern. The beadwork is done with all glass trade seed beads having a Cheyenne pink background framed by strips of chalk white, sky padre blue, and semi-transparent dark red and having a pattern in the center with greasy yellow, sky padre blue, semi-transparent blue, and semi-transparent dark red. The piece shows the highest of quality and artisanship with fine attention to detail having two major beadwork areas along the front and end of the scabbard with seven rectangular geometric patterns in between. This is truly of museum quality and in very fine condition showing little to no bead loss and supple hide. The inside of the scabbard is lined with a red trade clothe to protect ones firearm. The scabbard measures 45 1/8" long, and 7 1/4" wide at the opening. With the additional length of the tanned hide fringe drops, the scabbard measures 18 1/2" wide at the opening. The piece is from the Rising Wolf Trading Post that operated on the Blackfoot Reservation near Glacier National Park in Montana from circa 1889-1990 and was run by Kevin-Walks-In-Winter.
