For your consideration is a First Edition of "Life and Campaigns of General Robert E. Lee" by James D. McCabe Jr., 1867, Blelock & CO., New York and New Orleans, LA.; National Publishing Company, Richmond, VA., Cincinnati, Ohio; and Saint Louis, MO. A comprehensive biography of the Commander of the Confederate Army, one of the most prominent and controversial figures in American history - General Robert E. Lee. The book covers Lee's life from his birth in Virginia in 1807, through his military career, and up until his death in 1870. The author describes Lee's early life, his education at West Point, and his service in the Mexican-American War. The book also covers Lee's decision to resign from the United States Army and join the Confederate Army during the American Civil War, where he became one of the most successful and respected generals of the Confederacy. The book provides a detailed account of Lee's military campaigns, including his victories at Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville, as well as his defeat at Gettysburg. The author also explores Lee's personal life, including his marriage to Mary Custis Lee and his relationship with his family. Throughout the book, the author presents a balanced view of Lee, acknowledging his military prowess while also acknowledging his role in the defense of slavery.
