Presented in this lot is a First Edition of "Life Of General Houston 1793-1863" by Henry Bruce, 1891, Dodd, Mead, and Company publishers. "The Life of General Houston, 1793-1863" is a biographical account of the life of Sam Houston, a prominent American politician and military leader. Written by Henry Bruce and originally published in 1891, the book chronicles Houston's life from his birth in Virginia in 1793 to his death in Texas in 1863.The book covers Houston's early years, including his childhood in Tennessee and his time as a soldier in the War of 1812. It also delves into his political career, including his service as a congressman and governor of Tennessee, as well as his role in the Texas Revolution and his tenure as the first president of the Republic of Texas. Throughout the book, Bruce explores Houston's complex personality and his relationships with other historical figures such as Andrew Jackson and James Polk. He also examines Houston's views on slavery and his efforts to maintain peaceful relations with Native American tribes.
