Featured in this lot is this limited edition colored etching done by Mary Anna Lehman titled, "Sioux Warrior" circa 1971. Mary Lehman, was raised in Spokane, Washington and rose to fame with her horse etchings, which she frequently colored with oil and watercolor. She attended the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles in 1938 and served in the Women's Army Corps in Los Alamos, California, during World War II. She wed Joseph Lehman in 1946. Resuming her studies in art, Lehman attended UCLA (1946), Chouinard School of painting in Los Angeles (1946–1951) and El Camino College in Torrance, California (1956–1958). After relocating to Rolling Hills Estates, California in 1963, she started her etching in 1968. In addition to Rex Brandt, Dan Lutz, Mildred Walker, Richard Haines, and others, she studied etching with Joe Mugniani. The etching shows two Sioux Warriors bringing a horse over the hill as two others in the background follow suit. They are all holding large spears with adornments of feathers. The bottom of the etching reads, "16/40 Color Ed / Sioux Warriors / M. Lehman 5-1971" in pencil. The piece is set in a large, decorative frame showing a wood frame, followed by a cloth covered frame and finished with an outer wood frame. The visible art measures 10 9/16" L x 13 1/2" W, while the entire piece measures 21 1/8" L x 24" W x 2" D.
