The lot features an exceptional early Navajo Native American Indian Old Pawn concho belt made from sixteen Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollars. The concho or concha belt shows a 90% silver construction and the buckle is signed, "MR .900". Each concho is individually hand made showing a fine multi-part intricate stamped and carved traditional Navajo design with each having a silver heavy loop at each end which attaches to the silver single chain links. The oval shaped concho's each show a reeded (also called rolled, ridged, grooved, or milled) edge, original to the coin. The Walking Liberty Half Dollar is a 90% silver 50-cent piece minted in the United States Mint from 1916 to 1947. This set is thought to date from the 1940's when these coins were readily available. The piece displays very well and shows a fine, solid construction and good condition. Each concho is approximately 2 3/8"x1 7/8". The belt overall measures 43"L and weighs 235 grams. Provenance: From the collection of Dr. David and Marsha Bowerly of Oregon. Comes with the original receipt for $501 in 1995 (a value of approximately $1,000 from inflation in today's dollar).
