For your consideration is this very nice Navajo Toadlena/ Two Grey Hills hand woven wool rug. The Toadlena/ Two Grey Hills trading post is located in northwest New Mexico, northeast of the Crystal area. It was at this trading post that the style had its genesis and from this trading post, it derives its name. The Style was started there by George Bloomfield and Ed Davis in 1914. Toadlena/ Two Grey Hills rugs are characterized by natural browns, tan, gray, ivory, white, and black. They typically have a central diamond motif surrounded by other intricate patterns. The rug before you features most of the typical colors, including shades of brown, tan, cream [ivory], beige, black and gray. It has a full 2" border (2 1/4" and 2 3/4" at either end) with a somewhat unusual, almost banded, look to it and features black, grays, and browns. On one end the border features mostly browns woven in wavy lines; the border on the opposite is dominated by black and grays. The border colors show up again in the cream colored field outlining the bold block shapes of beige. The rug has a tight weave and is in very good condition. It measures 53" x 29 1/2".
