This is an outstanding very large Indian hide beaded doll from Northern Cheyenne, Anna Clubfoot. The piece has the original collection museum tag from the Custer Battlefield Museum "The Trading Post" in Garryowne, Montana. The tag has an older yellowing color with hand written "Cheyenne Doll by Anna Clubfoot Northern Cheyenne 16 (circled)" and on the back "Garryowen BUCKSKIN DOLL CLU7645 7645 CLU LARGE $900". The piece is the largest original Indian doll we have ever offered for sale and might be one of the largest dolls offered for public sale overall. The piece exhibits a thick Indian tanned Great American Bison Buffalo hide dress with thick hand cut fringes with yellow and red mineral pigment ocher further accented by beautiful geometric beadwork along both sides of the dress done in glass trade seed beads from the mid-1900's. The beadwork is done across the dress cape shoulders, down the arms, along the front of the chest and back (along the arms on both sides), along the entire bottom edge of the dress in two sections, fully top beaded moccasins and high top legging cuffs along a band as well as a completely beaded harness saddle leather belt. The beadwork shows colors of a light blue, corn yellow, semi-transparent red, blue, sky padre greasy blue, semi-transparent green. The head shows a red and black ocher paint along with facial trade petit seed beads in greasy white, black and red. The head shows braided real human hair with bucksin Indian hide ties, buckskin bone hair pipe like breastplate collar, Turkey feather in the hair and earrings done in semi-transparent orange seed bead, faceted trade bead and greasy vasoline hair pipe beads, all glass. The inside of the doll is done in a floral calico trade clothe. Provenance: From one of the larger Bozeman, Montana rare Montana History estates and has the original Garryowen, Montana Custer Battlefield Museum collection museum tag, made by Anna Clubfoot (Custer Battlefield Museum, Battle of the Little Bighorn, Battle of the Greasy Grass, Custer's Last Stand). Overall in good condition with mostly supple soft hide at the top with the bottom part of the dress having a slightly stiffness, very little bead loss and no apparent major damages, rips or tears. Measures overall 28"H by 23.5"W.
