Featured in this lot is this pictorial yucca and bear grass basket from Papago Tohono O'odham Indian tribe, circa 1890-1910. The basket shows a flared lip with a graduated side wall profusely decorated with pictorial images woven into the basket. The Papago Tohono O'odham (People of the Desert), are located in Arizona and are known for their weaving skills. The condition of this basket is worn; the wear, albeit significant, shows the age of this basket as much older and still shows the pictorial images woven in to the walls. The measurements of this basket are 8 1/2" x 13 1/4" x 13 1/4".
