Featured in this lot we have a Rare First Edition Two Volume set of "The Personal Memoirs of P.H. Sheridan", the celebrated 19th Century United States Army General. The book was published by Charles L. Webster & Company New York 1888 and press of Jenkins & McCowan. The set are both first edition 1888 dated and printed books and includes the complete set with both Volume I & Volume II. The books have a vast wealth of information on the Civil War and in specific Sheridan’s insights on the subject. Each volume contains different rare steel engraved portraits of Sheridan as front pieces and portraits of other figures such as Generals Gregg, Torbert, Merritt, James Wilson, Emory, Horatio Wright, and George A. Custer, with 25 maps of Civil War campaigns, and one of the Indian Campaign of 1868-69. The green cloth bound covers are gold gilt embossed on both the spine and front cover, the front covers also have vignettes of General Sheridan on a galloping horse. The books are in good overall condition for their age with some wear across the covers, age tanning and slight foxing observed throughout. The books measure 6.25"W x 9.25"L, each about 1.5"D, combined weight 4lb, 12oz.
