The lot features a Plains Native American Indian polychrome painted shield. The shield shows a heavy Great American Bison Buffalo rawhide with early otter tail with Indian tanned hide fringe having dew claws. The entire surface of the shield shows a ocher mineral pigment paint showing the imprint of a hand. On the shield are two medicine bundles and at the rear is the scalloped hide strap. The otter tail shows considerable age with a rich red ocher dye. The piece is from a large Native American artifact collection in Wyoming. The age is unknown. Measures overall 14"W x 24"L.
