Featured in this lot is this beautifully crafted Plains Native American cast brass tomahawk peace pipe circa early to mid 1900s. The tomahawk head is cast brass in the typical plains style with a heart cutout in the center of the blade. Stamped floral designs adorn the rest of the tomahawk head, while the end of the head shows the pipe section where tobacco is placed and smoked. Raw hide strips hold the head of the tomahawk in place and are adorned with two brightly colored real feathers, while the wood handle is wrapped fully in leather and larger sized raw hide strips. The leather on the handle shows two buffalo effigys, one on each side of the handle. Adorned on one side of the handle are trade beads, colored red and yellow, tied on rawhide strips with brass cones. This piece is in good condition with wear present from its age but no major signs of damage are noted. The piece measures 20" L x 7 1/4" W x 1 1/8" D, with the head measuring 2 1/4" L x 7 1/4" W x 7/8" D. The tomahawk weighs 1 pound.
