For your consideration are nine pieces of ephemera from the Pope Manufacture Ring Company advertising Columbia bicycles from the 1880s to 1890s. This lot includes one catalog, six advertisements and two pieces of ephemera, a printing block stamp and bike tag. The 1882 catalog is titled, "Columbia Bicycles" and features various items such as high wheel bikes, tricycles, cyclometers, bags, book carriers, lamps and bike stands. The first advertisement is from 1885 and is advertising Columbia bicycles. It shows three scenes of people riding high wheel bikes throughout the country side. The back of the advertisement shows a poem and reads, "Compliments of The Pope MFG. Co. Columbia Bicycles and Tricycles" at the bottom, under the poem. The next two advertisements are identical and are advertising Columbia Bicycles. The backs of the advertisements show different texts, one shows an extract from the Century Magazine (1882) and a letter from Dr. Geo. E. Blackham talking about the amazing bikes. The second one shows a write up about various models of Columbia bicycles. The fourth advertisement shows a man on a high wheel bike and a woman on a velocipede as they ride through a snowy setting. The top of the advertisement reads, "Columbia", while the back reads, "Columbia Valentine / Compliments of Pope MFG Co.". The fifth advertisement shows a man riding a high wheel bike near a lake. The top reads, "Columbia Bicycle", while the bottom reads, "Send 3 cent stamp for Price List and 24 page Catalogue, containing full information / The Pope Mfg. Co., 87 Summer St., Boston, Mass.". The back of the advertisement shows Amateur bicycle runs in England and the United States. The final advertisement is a cutout from a newspaper advertising Columbia bicycles and tricycles with a small write up on the details of the bikes. The first piece of ephemera is a Columbia Bicycle printing block stamp showing a man riding a high wheel. The second piece of ephemera is a Columbia Bicycle Model 38 bike tag reading, "Columbia Model 38 Made by Pope MFG. Co. / Patented May. 24, 87 / Dec. 6, 87 / Mar. 10, 91 / Feb. 14, 93 / Pat's. App'd. For.". The pieces in this lot show good condition overall with some wear present from their age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. The catalog measures 8 5/8" L x 5 7/8" W, the advertisements measure from 8 1/8" L x 5 7/8" W to 4 1/4" L x 2 7/8" W. The printing block measures 1 5/8" L x 1 1/8" W x 7/8" H, while the tag measures 2" L x 1 1/8" W. They have a collective weight of 8 ounces.
