Extremely low serial number, first year production Colt 1851 Navy revolver. This exceptionally fine condition example is serial number 6900. All parts show this matching number including the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder. This original condition Pre-Civil War Colt 1851 Six Shot . 36 Caliber Navy Revolver shows no signs of cleaning or repairs, all markings are sharp and clear including the early style barrel stamping “ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY” and “COLTS PATENT” on the left side of the frame. Lovely un-cleaned and unpolished mellow brass grip straps and trigger guard still retains some original silver plating. The cylinder also still retains a good portion of the fine roll engraved cylinder scene depicting a battle between the Texas Navy and Mexico. This example shows excellent mechanics and lovely high grade one-piece walnut grips with tight, correct fit and particularly fine grain pattern that was typically used on revolvers with special, even serial numbers (like this example with number 6900) that were often presented to dignitaries, military officers and people of special interest to the Colt factory. The Model 1851 was a classic sidearm of the Pre-Civil War Frontier, California gold seekers, and later in the Civil War and post Civil War Old West. Wild Bill Hickock was carrying a pair of Colt Navy revolvers when he was gunned down in Deadwood, South Dakota on August 2, 1876. This is a superior example in every way of Colt’s most famous and popular early model revolver that has both Civil War and Old West history. Unaltered and un-cleaned, it would be at home in the finest firearm, Civil War or Western collection. It would be very difficult to find an earlier example! The firearm qualifies as an Antique revolver, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 6900
