Included in this lot is this Rare 1885 "The American Hoyle, Revised Edition", Dick & Fitzgerald publishers. Provenance: Tombstone Western Heritage Museum, Tombstone, Arizona. "The American Hoyle" was a well-known handbook of games, particularly popular in the United States during the 19th century. The 1885 edition was a specific version of the book, highlighting its status as a guide for game enthusiasts during that period was a collection of rules and descriptions for various games, including card games, and reflected the American methods of playing. It was a practical guide for understanding the rules and strategies of different games. This book was immensely popular and saw numerous reprints, as readers sought better strategy and gameplay rules. An important treatise on games and game theory. The brown cloth bound gold gilt stamped illustrated hardcover is in good overall condition, gold gilt still bright, scuffing and staining exhibited to covers. Illustrations of hands holding cards, pool cues, dice and card suits. Intact pages exhibit age tanning. Measures 5"W x 7.5"L x 1.5"D, weight is 1lb, 10oz.
