Presented in this lot is a Rare "Blankets and Moccasins", by Glendolin Damon Wagner and Dr. William A. Allen, 1936, Caxton Printers, Ltd., Idaho, publishers. A history on the Crow Indians and their chief. Plenty Coups and his warriors were instrumental in saving General Crook's command at the Battle of the Rosebud. Plenty Coups was the principal chief of the Crow Tribe and a visionary leader. He allied the Crow with the whites when the war for the West was being fought because the Sioux and Cheyenne were the traditional enemies of the Crow. From about 1730, the Plains tribes rapidly adopted the horse, which allowed them to move out on to the Plains and hunt buffalo more effectively. However, the severe winters in the North kept their herds smaller than those of Plains tribes in the South. The Crow soon became noted as horse breeders and dealers and developed relatively large horse herds. At the time, other eastern and northern tribes were also moving on to the Plains, in search of game for the fur trade, bison, and more horses. This is a wonderful account of the life of the Crow (Apsáalooke) peoples, a Plains tribe that today lives mostly in Montana. The yellow cloth bound illustrated hardcover is in very nice condition, very slight scuffing noted on cover edges. Intact pages exhibit age tanning. Original illustrated paper dust jacket exhibits tears, soiling. Book measures 5.5"W x 7.75"L x 1"D, weight is 1lb
