Presented in this lot is a Rare John H. Flood Jr. Photograph, circa 1925-1926. Provenance: Tombstone Western Heritage Museum, Tombstone, Arizona. This photograph shows Flood on horseback alongside an unidentified cowboy on horseback. The photo was taken in the Vidal/Calzona area, close to Wyatt Earp's Happy Days mine in the Whipple Mountains; all located in eastern San Bernadino County, California. John Henry Flood Jr. (1878-1958) was a mining engineer who worked as Wyatt Earp's unpaid personal secretary late in Earp's life, completing the only authorized biography of Earp. A carbon copy of the manuscript was found in Josephine Earp's (Wyatt's wife) effects after her death. Amateur historian Glenn Boyer obtained the original carbon copy and gave to the Ford County Historical Society. When Earp died, Flood inherited many of his personal belongings. Flood in turn willed them to John Gilchriese. John Gilchriese was an amateur historian and long-time collector of Earp memorabilia who actually interviewed John H. Flood Jr., Wyatt Earp's secretary, several times before his death in 1959. Gilchriese operated a Wyatt Earp Museum from 1966 to 1973 at Fifth and Toughnut Streets in Tombstone. Attached Tombstone Western Heritage Museum label reads, "JOHN FLOOD on left Taken at Vidal & Calzona", museum code handwritten on reverse in pencil, "E45." Photo is mounted to a black sugar paper, age tanning consistent with age and use. Creases noted, tears on bottom edges. Photo is in well preserved condition in a clear protective plastic sleeve. Measures 3.25"W x 5"L, sleeve is 4.5"W x 5.75"L. Combined weight U6.
