In this lot is a rare pair of oversize Levi's 501 "Shrink to Fit" jeans. The jeans are W-76 L45. These jeans are made exactly like all other 501 Jeans, down to the five button fly and copper pocket rivets. Jeans were created in 1853 when Levis Strauss founded a wholesale business in San Francisco. At that time, 501 series of jeans were designed for western workers, miners, and cowboys. Levi's has been worn by people from all walks of life, from miners and actors to Nobel Prize recipients, from Marlon Brando to Albert Einstein himself, whose leather jacket was made by Levi Strauss & Co in the 1930s and sold at auction house Christie's in July 2016 for £110,500. The 501 Jeans were special due to the heavy weight denim that was used, meaning consumers had to buy jeans with adjusted measurements. On each pair of jeans was the "Shrink to Fit" sizing chart that told you how to adjust your actual measurements to what size you should buy. This tag is still attached to these jeans. All the copper rivets and metal buttons are original to Levi Strauss and Co. This is a great item for the collector. The measurements are inseam: 40 1/2"; Outseam: 62" and Waist: 35 1/2" lying flat.
