Offered in this lot is a Rare Original Falk Cabinet Card of Lillian Russell, circa 1882. Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. Lillian Russell (1861-1922) was an American actress and singer. She became one of the most famous actresses and singers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, praised for her beauty and style, as well as for her voice and stage presence. The cabinet card displays her in costume as Prince Raphael in the Jacques Offenbach opéra bouffe, "The Princess of Trebizonde". Benjamin ‘Jake‘ Falk (1853-1925) at the turn of the 20th century was the most reputable theatrical portraitist working in New York. In theatrical history Falk is most noted for taking the first in theatre production photographs. The cabinet card features Russell's name below her portrait, LILLIAN RUSSELL as PRINCE RAPHAEL IN "THE PRINCESS OF TREBIZONDE". Falk's studio stamp is on bottom border, "Falk 949 BROADWAY, N. Y." The cream coloured cabinet card is in fair preserved condition in a clear protective sleeve, edge scuffing and damage noted. Piece of photograph torn off at top left.
