Featured in this lot we have a Remington model 1889 double barrel hammer shotgun chambered in 12 gauge. Considered one of the finest shotguns of the period, the Remington Model 1889 proved popular through the 1890s. Offered from plain to fancy grades, this example with serial number 76857 sports a checkered pistol grip stock and forend, case colored action and fancy Damascus barrels with solid rib. The forend also has a inletted steel release lever for quick removal of the forend and barrels for cleaning, storing or traveling. The shotgun displays a 32" long barrels, walnut stock, external hammers, double trigger system, and break action. The rib of the barrels is marked "REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y. U.S.A." with each of the lock plates marked "REMINGTON ARMS CO.". Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona where the shotgun has been on display in their collection for multiple decades, Marge and Stephen Elliott collection with many items associated with John D. Gilchriese. The shotgun weighs 8lbs 12oz. Serial Number: 76857. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
