The lot features a very unique circa 1870-1890 human effigy carved solid wood “Victory Dance Stick” from the Sioux Native American Indians. The piece shows a solid hardwood staff which has been artfully completely hand carved showing a human effigy head carved top with period correct solid brass trade tack gripping area, incised geometric alternating square and triangle design further adorned by a blue, yellow and red ocher mineral painted finish. The human effigy carved top shows a Warrior’s head with mohawk having red dyed or paint from the eye sockets up and yellow paint or dyed from the eye sockets down having metal stud eyes. The detail and precision in this piece is astounding along with the very well preserved good condition.
