Featured in this lot is this classic, "The History of W. & C. Scott Gunmakers" by J. A. Crawford and P. G. Whatley, Rowland Ward publishers London, UK. Fascinating account of these famous gunmakers, from designs to shooting contests and an end piece on gun safety. This book began life as a commemorative pamphlet which was later expanded into a book. Much new material was obtained from descendents of the Scott family, Geoffrey Boothroyd and others. A most interesting document. Chapters include: The Scott family of gunmakers; Patents of William M. Scott; Exhibitions and shooting contests; A visit to Scott's Gun Manufactory by C. Waddy; Scott guns and rifles of the 19th century; Webley & Scott; Scott and Webley & Scott guns and rifles; W. & C. Scott (Gunmakers) Ltd. An appendix gives further information including, most usefully, W. & C. Scott's Gun Measurement Specification Sheet, with which a gun can be matched to the physical idiosyncracies of an individual customer. This black cloth bound gold gilt hardcover is in good overall condition, slight cover soiling, tight spine. Intact pages are clean and bright. No other obvious marring noted.
