For your consideration is this early (1860) edition of Samuel M. Smucker's, "The Life and Times of Thomas Jefferson". Samuel Smucker wrote his Jefferson biography in 1857, thirty-one years Jefferson's death. According to the author's preface, his aim was to write a non-partisan biography that neither "indiscriminately [praised]", nor "wholesale [censured] Jefferson. The book The book is 400 pages and has 24 pages of ads in the back. It is bound in brown pebbled cloth with stamped front and rear boards and stamped gilt titles on the spine.. There is some penciling on the flyleaf and the protective tissue guarding the frontispiece is mostly missing. The volume is otherwise in very good condition, having a tight binding. It measures 5.5" x 7.75" x 1.5".
