This is a Rare Original First Edition of, "The Story of the Yellowstone" by John H. Raftery, 1912, publisher McKee Printing Company, Butte, Montana. A scarce work with material on Lewis and Clark, Colter's first visit, scientific exploration, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, the geysers, military expeditions, protection of animals, Army surveillance, the Park in Winter, etc. Yellowstone was the first national park in the U.S. and is also widely held to be the first national park in the world, located in the western United States, largely in the northwest corner of Wyoming and extending into Montana and Idaho. Yellowstone National Park is a nearly 3,500-sq.-mile wilderness recreation area atop a volcanic hot spot. Mostly in Wyoming, the park spreads into parts of Montana and Idaho too. Yellowstone features dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs and gushing geysers, including its most famous, Old Faithful. It's also home to hundreds of animal species, including bears, wolves, bison, elk and antelope. This maroon cloth bound embossed gold gilt lettered hardcover is in fair to good overall condition, gold gilt is faded, very minimal scuffing noted to cover edges. Intact pages exhibit age tanning throughout with slight foxing. Covers and pages exhibit humidity curling, covers appear repaired with tape. No other obvious marring observed.
