Featured in this lot is this beautiful, limited edition print of University of Montana's University Hall bell tower done by Montana artist Monte Dolack circa 1983. Monte A. Dolack is an American graphic artist who lives in Missoula, Montana, in the United States. Frommer's called him "one of the best-known artists in Montana." He works primarily in watercolor, acrylic paint, poster art, and lithographs, and is considered a key figure in the visual arts of the American West. The piece shows the bell tower of University of Montana's University Hall, as a squirrel and a bird sit in the tree branches and a paraglider glides in the background. The university's oldest standing building, also known as Main Hall, faces the Oval in the heart of campus and proudly represents the birth of this fine institution. A. J. Gibson, a well-known Missoula architect, created the Richardsonian Romanesque style structure, which, along with its now-demolished companion Science Hall, formed the campus when the school first opened in 1899. During the university's dedication ceremony in 1898, corn, oil, and water were poured over the building's cornerstone to represent abundance, joy, and peace. Today, the hourly chimes of the bells in the stately bell tower serve as a continual reminder of the university's lasting strength. The iconic "M" can be seen on the mountain behind the bell tower and large towering mountains further in the background. The bottom is signed twice, once on the print and once in pen for the limited edition print reading, "M. Dolack 1983 © / Monte Dolack 62/300". The bottom of the print reads, "University of Montana" in red lettering. It is set in a silver colored frame and sits behind glass to preserve its condition. The visible art measures 28 " L x 20" W, while the entire piece measures 28 3/4" L x 20 3/4" W x 1" D and weighs 7 pounds and 6 ounces.
